A recommendation from an old acquantaince.

It would have been better if high school Aparna read this—she was constantly reading (and blogging) about the dangers of AI and bias in large datasets and AI applications in a frenzied panic. This was all still new to her then.

I assume many of the points made in this book were astounding to readers at the time it was written—and they likely remain this way for those without a technical background today — but the issues mentioned are now ones that most of us with even a vague interest in ethics and AI have read about extensively. It's an almost tired subject at this point.

(To be fair, based on the way O'Neil throws the word "algorithm" around, technical readers likely aren't her target audience)

Still, it had some good case studies to bring up at my next literary salon meeting—there are many points in here that I believe are worthy of discussion. I put some Post-it notes on the most relevant pages.
